Based on the lyrics of Loudon Wainwright III's The Man Who Couldn't Cry. Years later it was made famous by Johnny Cash's performance on his American Recordings album. In the song Johnny’s dog gets ran over, his wife up and left him and he got sacked from his job are just a few lyrics of this sublime and silly tune. After I illustrated Paul I decided to continue making it into a series of American folklore heroes. I found allot of inspiration for the illustrations listening to my father's record collection of old country music and folk tunes. You can read more about how the series came about at Ferocious Quarterly. The cards were pressed by the talented and hardworking Scott T. McClelland of Two Paper Dolls in Wayne, Pennsylvania.
