I recently had a chance to collaborate with the ultra talented art director and good friend Sean Costik of Projekt, Inc. on a site promoting Martin Treu’s new book Signs, Streets, and Streetscapes. Part celebration of historic American “main streets” and part road map to what he hopes will be a resurgence in classic city planning. This project was the perfect combination of great art direction and super cool client who had a design sensibility that matched our own. The book is excellent as well of course!

An added bonus has been the love it's been getting around the web. Comm Arts will be featuring the work martintreu.com as a WebPick of the day on January 23. The site has also been recognized by one of the coolest design industry sites Design Work Life.

silk screen print, Disney commission

I’ve been fortunate enough to be commissioned by Disney for a second time. This new assignment was to create an illustration based on the 1953 animated film Peter Pan for the ‘Good vs. Evil' exhibition at the WonderGround Gallery in the Downtown Disney® District at the Disneyland® Resort in Anaheim, California. This piece, entitled 'Night Duel' was inspired by the final action sequence in the film, where Peter and Captain Hook square off for a final time. This limited edition print was done by the team at The Half and Half. The piece is a four color hand pulled silk screen print on acid free 100# French Pop-Tone Blu Raspberry Paper with a 100 weight. The image is approximately 36” tall x 15” wide. 'Night Duel' will debut at the WonderGround Gallery on December 15, 2012.

Started a personal project to create a new desktop wallpaper and post it to my site every month. When looking for inspiration I just went to my Netflix queue. This illustration is for the classic Coen Brother's film Raising Arizona. Check in next month for a brand spanking new wallpaper for download. Looking to stay with the motion picture theme and I leaning towards using a film from Mr. Stanley Kubrick!

I illustrated and created this flash animation for a personal thesis project in graduate school. Based on the lyrics of Loudon Wainwright III's The Man Who Couldn't Cry. Years later it was made famous by Johnny Cash's performance on his American Recordings album. In the song Johnny’s dog gets ran over, his wife up and left him and he got sacked from his job are just a few lyrics of this sublime and silly tune.

Animation is loading below…please be patient there slim! Johnny likes to take his time tuning his guitar.

Not a week goes by where a Beastie's lyric or reference from one of their albums doesn't enter my head. This illustration was for the 33.3 show. It was a exposition that gave illustrators and designers the opportunity to reinterpret classic album covers. I settled on the classic Beastie Boy's album Paul's Boutique. This illustration pretty much sums up my early college years. For the record I was not impaired from the use of mind bending drugs or alcohol while creating this image.

The concept for this series came to me after I illustrated a Paul Bunyan print for Wilco's 2010 concert in Duluth, Minnesota. After I illustrated Paul I decided to continue making it into a series of American folklore heroes. I found allot of inspiration for the illustrations listening to my father's record collection of old country music and folk tunes. You can read more about how the series came about at Ferocious Quarterly.

The cards were pressed by the talented and hardworking Scott T. McClelland of Two Paper Dolls in Wayne, Pennsylvania. You can purchase a numbered and signed Heroes of Folk print at my store.

Being born and raised in Lancaster, Pennsylvania I was really excited to be asked to do work for Lancaster County Magazine:

1. This first illutration was for the cover of November 2011's best of issue. Rural life here includes a beautiful landscape, delicious eats and of course the Amish folk.

2. Artwork was based on an article of how spoiling children young can produce dependent adults.
